International Awareness & Involvement
Bellevue Alumnae Chapter supported again for the 11th straight year, a phenomenal project in Kasoa,Ghana. This project was the chapter's International Awareness Project, a work that, in the beginning, focused on the students attending The People's School for Positive Education, by expanding their school's physical structure and its curriculum.
Now this year, that focus has evolved into supporting the education of those students' parents and guardians. Thanks to the lessons taught at the school, parents were able to see their children learn to read, and now they want that same opportunity. This sorority year (‘19-’20), we were able to help support that effort.

For the past 10 years, Bellevue Alumnae Chapter has partnered with the city of Bellevue for the Martin Luther King Health Fair. This is a day long event, with entertainment from local community artists, singers, musicians, spoken word and more all in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King! We also hear words of encouragement from local elected officials. We share educational information about Dr. Martin Luther King and his legacy.
There are vendors providing valuable community health information, social service information, and community well being information. There are cancer screenings also available. And lots of give-aways, including a free raffle with great prizes. This fun filled event happens on the Dr. Martin Luther King holiday every year. |
The chapter has supported our national action of Delta Days at the Capital. Every spring the chapters of Washington state come together for a gathering in Olympia to visit with legislators and advocate for causes important to Black Women.
Our chapter participated in the NAACP's “Black Voices Change Lives” voting campaign. Our volunteers adopted infrequent Black voters in important swing States by calling and/or texting them weeks before the 2020 election to boost Black voter turnout in 12 battleground states. |
